Does anyone know if there’s a way, through iOS shortcuts, that I could set up a weekly repeating omg.lol status update. I’d like to post a weekly disclaimer reminder on my LinkedIn. Right now I’ve got statuses linked to a 3rd party that pushes to LinkedIn, but I’m not sure how to repeat the same status each week.

4 weeks agoA sign that reads “Center for Christian Values” hangs now on the building where some Republican organization’s sign used to hang. For me it begs the question, what exactly is a “Christian” value and how does it differ from a “value” value? Is it the pleated skirts? It’s probably the pleated skirts.

2 months agoI’m still upset that the episode of 30 Rock with Oprah Winfrey got yanked from all the streaming platforms and digital stores. I mean, I get it (although I’ll never really get it since that first “I get it” is about to be followed up with a “but” which means I don’t really get it), but it was so funny! I wish they could’ve AI edited out the B-story and kept Oprah and Liz (and Pam).

There are very few things I hate more than sour blueberries.
I’d take a paper cut over a sour blueberry.
I’d crawl through a bat-infested cave on my hands and knees over a sour blueberry.
Rather than suffer another sour blueberry, I’d watch a Kardashian on the television. Be a bit like A Clockwork Orange style for me, but I’d do it!
So boo to sour blueberries. Get out of my fruit basket, and get into the rubbish bin. And stay there!

3 months agoAlso, maybe the reason I don’t watch A Charlie Brown Christmas religiously has to do with the religious parts. AND I think the tree was better off without all those ghastly ornaments on it.
3 months agoAnd while my general outlook on (and self-perceived lot in) life resembles Charlie Brown’s, I really think it’s Snoopy I adore the most. Having Lucy Beagle around for 13 years has really endeared him to me.
3 months agoI’m watching A Charlie Brown Christmas for the first time in years. I’ve always loved it, of course, but watching it has never been as much of a yearly tradition for me as The Great Pumpkin.
3 months agoMy fondness for Christmas has waned significantly over the years. I try hard to avoid seasonal music until Dec 21, when, by my rule, it becomes appropriate to listen to. Everyone ignores my rule and starts playing that crap in September but whatever. I know I’m right.
As it is now Dec 22, I’m starting seasonal listening with the expanded 80-track version of A Charlie Brown Christmas.
4 months agoIsn’t it funny how “all lives matter” to some people - on their t-shirts, on their bumper stickers, during their family arguments - all the way up until actual genocide is being carried by Israel or Ukraine needs help because Russia is murdering its people? Where are the all lives matter people now? Someone should really take attendance. It’s almost like they were just using that phrase as a subtle form of racism that didn’t mean anything except having the last word.

4 months agoHey does anyone else remember that one time in the year 2000 on December 13th when that one president-elect named Al Gore conceded after that one Conservative Supreme Court did that one thing where they inexplicably reversed a state court decision to recount Florida's votes and instead handed the presidency to George W. Bush? Remember that? That time when a stolen presidential election was legitimate and should’ve caused a people’s uprising the likes of which this country hadn’t seen since the American Revolution, but didn’t? Like, people just kind of complained about it. And then the climate crisis accelerated and the infrastructure crumbled and the economy crumbled and the wars were long and needless and the deficit raged and one political party eventually spouted its divisive rhetoric often enough that it unleashed a pro-business monster who did more harm to this country in four years than the entirety of all of his predecessors?
Huh. Yeah, that was a wacky time for sure.
4 months agoWhat timing. The HCR piece is about the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and how it came to be.
And just Sunday I discovered a beautiful work by Max Richter in which he set the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to music. It’s called “Voices”.
It’s quite stirring, full of hope and disappointment at the same time. Hope, because of its aspiration, disappointment because so many of its promises remain unfulfilled or have been broken altogether.
Both are worth your time to read and listen to.

4 months agoI’ve been thinking about writing (and not sending) about a letter a week to my conservative dad. The one who sent me to conversion therapy with a clergyman when I was a teen, leaving wounds that still aren’t closed. The one who believes that Black Lives Matter is more of a threat to America than the January 6th insurrection which literally set the White House on fire. The one who thinks Trump is a wealthy, smart businessman because Art of the Deal. The one who always, always, always needles and pokes and skates around politics and then tells me I’m being too political when I call him out on it. Yeah. That dad. I have imaginary fights with him about politics almost every day, and these fights take up too much mental real estate. Maybe it would help to get some of this out of my head and on to paper, even if it’s just for me (or my blog). Maybe I’d learn something. Maybe I’d finally let go and forgive. Or maybe I’ll slowly go insane. 🤷🏻♂️

There’s some dude sitting outside the church yelling “I am the King” and saying other crap about god or whatever. He just got up and I thought he was walking away, but I could see him in my rear view mirror getting something from a car parked further back from mine. He’s acting erratically. Standing still outside his car. Green tee shirt khaki cargo pants. He’s walking a few steps then stopping and standing for like a minute. Then slowly going a few more steps. Standing. Bending to pick up something from the street. Walking. He’s gone around the corner and is now out of site. I don’t like the way he was looking at our little gay house.

9 months agoA good spot of news on Lucy: they got her to eat and keep down some food. It was a mild cat food, and she only liked it if it was heated up and hand-fed to her. But I’m taking it as a sign of progress in the right direction. I’d hand-feed her morning, noon, and night if that’s what it would take to have her around a little longer. We get to pick her up early this afternoon.
P.S. Today would’ve been Shiba Inu Bonsai’s birthday :-/ I still think of her almost nightly.
9 months agoLucy update: no progress. They’re keeping her another night. I’m allowed to visit but I’m scared to because that makes it more real. I can’t block my emotions if it’s more real. Why don’t they teach THAT in schools? “Here are some techniques you can try to be better equipped to handle all the awful, horrific, terrible things life is going to throw at you over and over and over again.” Instead we’re taught we’re broken if we don’t see the glass as half full and look for silver linings. Like I can just be myself and Chat GPT can play the role of a hiring manager who needs to come up with a new hire training plan and everything will be ok… Wait. Whaddya mean it “isn’t real”? Artificial?! Like a plastic plant? No way! Say it isn’t so! Chat GPT, you cruel interface. You’ve broken my heart, and you’ve emptied my wallet.
